Pakistan captain Babar Azam has moved up to the top of the ICC ODI rankings by removing Virat Kohli. For almost three-and-a-half years, Virat Kohli held the number one position in the ODI rankings. With the passage of time, Babar Azam is taking himself to unique heights.
Babar started his tour of South Africa with 638 rating points. He surpassed Kohli by 103 runs in the first ODI of the series to reach 658 rating points. After scoring 31 runs in the second match, he lost 6 points and went down to 752 points. After scoring 94 runs to win the series in the last match, Babar moved to the number one position. At the moment, Kohli has collected 856 rating points.
In the ODI match against South Africa, Babur has surpassed Kohli by playing two great innings. Babur was instrumental in the team’s victory with a 94-run innings in the series-deciding match against South Africa at Centurion. After getting 13 rating points, he is now at number one in ODIs with 65 rating points, leaving Kohli behind by 6 rating points. After Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad and Mohammad Yousuf, Babar Azam became the fourth Pakistani cricketer to top the ODI batsmen’s rankings.
On the same day, he built another unique fame. He became the third Pakistani player to score a century in T20. The South African openers gave Pakistan a big target of 204 runs. Babar Azam’s century and Mohammad Rizwan’s fifties on the verge of victory, the team was out for 122 runs in 198 runs. This is the highest run in the second innings as captain in T20. Babar Azam scored 122 runs off just 59 balls with 15 fours and 4 sixes in the all-encompassing cover drive.
